Flagship Helps Clayton County Efficiently Migrate At-Risk Data to New, Reliable System

The Client

Clayton County Board of Commissioners is a local government located just south of Atlanta that services approximately 290,000 citizens and 2,800 employees.

The Challenge

Clayton County has been running several custom developed software solutions that provide services to the courts, tax offices and finance. The system was running on an IBM iSeries. Since IBM discontinued hardware support for the iSeries that the county was using, they were looking for replace the hardware with a new hardware environment that was both supportable long term and scalable. With the existing hardware showing signs of imminent failure, Clayton County was looking to get the hardware replaced ASAP.

The Solution

Clayton County was able to partner with Flagship to work through a configuration that would meet the technical needs of the county at a price that was acceptable. Flagship worked with the IT department and Central Services department to ensure that the procurement process was smooth and was able to implement the new IBM Power9 iSeries quickly and with minimal downtime.

Client Executive Sharyl Jones was instrumental in keeping the lines of communication open and ensuring that all of Clayton County’s questions were answered quickly. Additionally, she followed-up often to make sure that Clayton County was constantly updated on shipping and delivery statuses.

The Results

Clayton County, working in conjunction with Flagship’s expert technical resources were able to configure the new systems and migrate the data efficiently resulting in minimal downtime and, more importantly, without loss of data or services.

In addition, Clayton County purchased a new tape library that allowed the continued use of the current tapes while given the option to benefit from newer tape technology. In both situations, the citizens and employees of the county benefitted because of the efficiency and expertise of both the IT department and Flagship’s services.
