Are you going to IBM Edge 2016? If you are an IBM Power Systems user, or are considering becoming one, this is one event you can’t miss!

Edge is an IBM conference featuring more than 750 sessions covering everything from becoming a cognitive business to deep dives into open innovation, Linux and cloud. You’ll quickly realize that Edge was worth the trip when you connect and collaborate with other IT professionals, or visit the Solution Center EXPO for ideas on how to outthink the competition.

Edge 2016 will take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, September 19-22. This premier global conference provides the ideal venue for IT leaders who will design, build and deliver infrastructure for the cognitive era. In the cognitive era, IT leaders are the architects of the future, architects of ideas, architects of ‘we can do anything’.

Jaqui Lynch, Solution Architect at Flagship Solutions Group and contributor for Systems Magazine, will be leading some very compelling sessions around how to accelerate cloud Innovation with Power Systems. In her sessions she will share specific techniques for tuning and virtualizing to seamlessly and securely optimize the Power Systems servers in your environment.

Jaqui’s speaking schedule at Edge includes the following sessions:

AIX Performance Tuning, Part 1: CPU and Memory
Date/Time : Mon, 19-Sep, 03:45 PM-04:45 PM
Location : MGM Grand – Room 309

AIX Performance Tuning, Part 2: I/O
Date/Time : Tue, 20-Sep, 11:45 AM-12:30 PM
Location : MGM Grand – Room 309

AIX Performance Tuning, Part 3: Network
Date/Time : Tue, 20-Sep, 02:15 PM-03:15 PM
Location : MGM Grand – Room 309

The Care and Feeding of Virtual I/O Servers
Date/Time : Wed, 21-Sep, 11:00 AM-12:00 PM
Location : MGM Grand – Room 312

The Care and Feeding of Virtual I/O Servers
Date/Time : Thu, 22-Sep, 01:15 PM-02:15 PM
Location : MGM Grand – Room 312

The 3-part series covering AIX Performance Tuning will describe a recommended set of starter tunables to be used on any AIX system. Jaqui will provide detailed instructions on how to determine the settings for those tunables and how to set them. She will present the general performance tuning approach and tuning memory in particular.

Topics around file systems, HBA settings and queue_depth settings will also be explored, along with file system layout, concurrent I/O and asynchronous I/O. During the sessions, differences in settings between AIX 5.3, 6.1 and 7 will be explained.

  • Part 1 will cover memory and CPU
  • Part 2 will cover I/O, performance tools and some Oracle tips. Real data will be used to illustrate the various points being made
  • Part 3 will cover the network

The two duplicate sessions entitled, “Care and Feeding of VIO Servers” cover best practices for setting up Virtual I/O (VIO) Servers. There will be discussion on setup, ongoing maintenance and upgrades, as well as backup techniques. Additionally, Jaqui will cover monitoring VIO servers, File Backed Optical (FBO) devices, useful commands and some additional material.

Join Jaqui, as well as many other technical resources and your peers at IBM Edge 2016.

We look forward to seeing you there.
